I had a VP task me one time to listen to one of his stations and challenged me to “Tell me what market they’re in. Seriously. Pretend you don’t know, listen for an hour and honestly tell me that anything outside of the ID and address mentions in spots would indicate where they are.” I did and I couldn’t. And this was back before you could hear a DJ from LA on 18,000 stations.
The digital version of this exercise was a few months ago when I needed to check something on one of the client websites, forgot their address so Googled them and accidentally clicked on the wrong station with the same moniker and dial position.
